FACILITIES RE-PURPOSING ADVOCACY
The CSTVCIC advocates repurposing unused and abandoned facilities instead of merely demolishing them and if necessary having to reconstruct similar, often more costly facilities in the future. Our advocacy stems from the Mineral City/Bolivar Schools re-purposing project here where we seek to re-purpose those two schools should they be abandoned in favor of a new consolidated school. Should an abandoned facility be acquired and re-purposed by a government agency or non-profit organization, Organizations' and small start-up businesses' barriers to market entry costs would be reduced since the non-profit facility would be equally shared among all users. Multiple reuses would ensure the former school's proper financing for administration and maintenance, and foundation grants would be pursued for any initial or critical capital expenditures. We have brainstormed the following potential re-uses, and welcome your ideas for other potential re-uses.
